Course Information
The course is entitled “Understanding Islam & Muslims”, will be held on Sundays in the Multi-purpose room.
Text, Readings, Materials:
Textbook: Understanding Islam, Yahiya Emerick, Alpha Books, 2004.
Supplementary reading(s):
- Minhaj al-Muslim, Abu Bakr al-Jazairi, Dar al-Salam Publishers.
- Audio/visual may be assigned as well.
- Supplements may be given out at the beginning of each class.
Materials: Each student should come prepared with a notebook, pen and/or pencil.
Course Descriptions/Objectives:
This course seeks to present to the Muslim student the “Why” behind Muslim faith, practice, society, and history. The student will be prepared to explain to others the basics of his/her faith, understand why certain misconceptions are prevalent, and how to address them in a friendly and approachable manner. Each student will be able to not only perform the basics of their faith, but exemplify them to others.

Attendance, lateness:
- Class starts at 11:00am.
- Doors close at 11:15am.
- No admittance after doors close.
Grading & Class participation: Students are expected to learn, apply, analyze, and be active.
- Participation will be 20% of your grade.
- Mid-term exam is 30% of your grade.
- Final Exam is 50% of your grade.
Class contact: In addition to your teacher, class will at times be led by a substitute. You are expected to attend on these days, and your absences count against your class participation. If you have any inquiries about school policy, substitutes, or teachers please contact the Sunday School administration
